This book is a collection of sixty-one poems centered around the day to day life of a toddler divided into chapters. “Me, myself, and I,” “Who lives in my house,” “I go outside, and Time” for bed are the four categories. The poems emphasize the moments of a toddlers life from a Circle of Sun to Dreammaker. I chose this book because it has great short poems, and they are simple to read to my daughter. My favorite poem, The No-No Bird, is about a child that says no to everything, just like my daughter. "I'm the no-no bird! I sulk and sing No! No! No! too everything.” These lines show the expression of every toddler’s face when they are saying no. The poems are every bit of my daughter's day and I absolutely love the book. It is a must have for parents with younger children.

Illustrations are done in pen, ink, and watercolors to give a whimsical effect throughout the collection. The colors are bright with mixed media composition and lines. Small vignette illustrations are used with the poems to give it visual balance. The whimsical effect gives it a fun, yet loving feeling expressing the life of a child.

This book would be good used in Kindergarten through second grade. The book would be a great way to introduce poetry to get the students thinking, "What was my every day toddler years like?"  This could also be used to help the students create a poem of their own or the class as a whole. This book has many awards Book Sense Summer 2007, Children’s Pick List, Claudia Lewis Poetry Award, Finalist CYBILS, ALA Notable Book 2007, E. B. White picture book list, CCBC’s annual best-of-the-year list, IBBY Honors List for 2008, Booklist Editors Choice 2007, Sunday Times Children’s Book of the Week, PW favorite Poetry Book for 2007,Children’s Books Ireland.
